Performs a variety of complex professional and administrative work in planning, developing, scheduling, directing and implementing a comprehensive year-round, city-wide parks and recreation program.

Prepare, develop, and monitor the department budget; monitor revenues and expenditures in assigned areas to assure sound fiscal control; prepare annual budget requests; assure effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
Initiate and maintain diversified and comprehensive recreational programs; responsibilities including but not limited to:
athletic leagues, adult and children's classes, senior program, special events, pool operations and concession operations.
Recruit, select, supervise, train, appraise, counsel and terminate all Department personnel.
Promote the Department programs and services through marketing and promotional activities; including advertisements, data bases, fliers, brochures, City website, City matters, public access network, etc.
Oversee the collection of fees for program registration and contracts; review and approve receipts and expenses.
Plan, organize, and implement departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures; recommend changes in staffing, objectives, policies and procedures to assure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
Evaluate programs and leagues through observation, direct contact and surveys with participants.
Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans; gather, interpret, and prepare data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinate Department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.
Supervise the inventory of recreation supplies and equipment; approve purchases as needed.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the field of recreation management; incorporate new developments as appropriate; responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
Perform related work as required Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Parks Administration, or other related field required.
One to three years of experience in public recreation, athletics, aquatics, park maintenance, or related field required.
Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, public/private agencies, and citizens.
